"Hero to Villain" Medley
For my senior recital at UNCW, I spent the summer beforehand going through music that I thought I might want to include. I had so many reprises of songs from musicals and short songs that I wanted in my recital, but it felt impossible to include everything I wanted to, or for it to make sense. So, I decided to search for sheet music for as many of these songs as I could, and stitch together an arrangement of my favorite sections of each short song I wanted to include. I decided to call it the "Hero to Villain" medley, because the order/flow of the medley shows a bit of a shift from a character starting as the hero of their story, to have life impact them into turning into a villain.
Everybody - Music Direction
During my final semester at UNCW, I had the privilege of music directing and assistant stage managing Everybody, by Branden Jacobs Jenkins. Before the rehearsal process started, I worked closely with the director, Dr. Elizabeth Wellman, listening to her vision for the play and how she wanted to incorporate acapella music for the show's scenic transitions. She expressed wanting the actors to sing the songs, and that her vision was for everything to feel like the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina. We went through songs together, and she gave me the freedom to break them down and create acapella arrangements to be sung throughout the show. Please enjoy some of the vocals from our rehearsals
Cookout: The Musical
Also during my time at UNCW, I participated in the Theatre Department's first annual 24-Hour "Play-in-a-Day" event. During this event, we started writing scripts at 8:00 PM, and had until 2:00 AM to finish them. I stayed until about 1:50 AM, and wrote COOKOUT: The Musical. The next morning, we met at 10:00 AM, and began rehearsing and staging our original works throughout the day, until our performances at 7:00 PM. During this event, I wrote and directed COOKOUT: The Musical, and performed in several other original works. Please enjoy this recording of the performance of COOKOUT: The Musical.
